The Appraisal District Board of Directors Role in the Property Tax System
The local property tax system follows the principle of checks and balances. An appraisal district board of directors is responsible hiring a chief appraiser, appointing a taxpayer liaison, approval of an annual budget, and development of a biennial written reappraisal plan.
The directors have no authority to set values or appraisal methods. The chief appraiser is the chief administrator of the appraisal office and is responsible for carrying out the appraisal district’s legally required duties.
